One of the largest seas in the world is the Argentine Sea. It is a fascinating body of water that is situated off of the Southeast coast of the mainland of Argentina. It cusps with the South Atlantic Ocean and is known for its temperate demeanor. The Argentine Sea has an average depth of almost 4,000 feet while in some spots, the waters can reach a little over 7,000 feet. The accommodating conditions create a habitable environment for a diverse array of life. The Argentine sea spans a dynamic 390,000 square feet. The vast space provides a home for an array of plant and sea life. Varying species range from above and below the water making it a location of great biodiversity. This title has made it possible to name at least 12 regions of the Argentine Sea as protected areas.

Life in the Sea

Finned, feathered and plant species thrive surrounded by the Sea’s moderate climate and conditions. A coastline of 3100 miles long and two islands directly on the Sea offer opportunity for land animals to coexist with their neighbors in the water. The islands are inhabited with settlers who respect the environment and their part in sustaining it. There are at least four different kinds of whales that swim in the water. The Humpback, Southern Right and Blue are common to see while the Orca seems to hide below for longer periods. Sharks, Dolphins and Seals swim the Seas with smaller species such as plankton and sardines. There are dozens of fish types that can be found off the coast. On land, penguins and sea lions are prevalent along with the sights and sounds of seagulls flying overhead.

Sustaining Sea Life

The Argentine Sea is more than a mere body of water. It is a part of our ecosystem and planetary biosphere. Researchers have found a concentration of chlorophyll-a along the waters. It is the pigment used by phytoplankton to transform elements of sunlight into sustenance. As a central unit of the oceanic food chain, food is provided for fish, whales and even microscopic animals. Aside from sustaining Sea life, the effects move beyond the shore impacting the environment. Another source this form impacts is the necessary basis of oxygen. Helping to produce oxygen is vital to the entire planet. Notes of air also includes carbon dioxide. Nature provides a carbon cycle that is meant to rid the atmosphere of carbon dioxide. The Sea cycle itself is of imperative importance. It absorbs carbon dioxides and turns them into carbohydrates.

The Argentine Sea is full of beauty and life. Residing right off of Argentina’s mainland, the view of the Sea is a part of the culture that surrounds the country. If you find yourself near the shores with a curious eye, it is safe to not venture too far. There are set regulations to follow for visitors with some sections that are not meant for close quarter visits. It is a priority to ensure the Sea water stays balanced and flourishing within the cycle of life.
