Sizing Up the Famous Argentinosaurus

The Earth has undergone many periods of transformation and transition. From lands of lava to ice covered sceneries, life itself has withstood the elements. In all parts of the world, billions of lifeforms have transformed to accommodate their surroundings. Before humans became the number one reason for the extinction of wildlife, there were catastrophic events that led to the elimination of entire species. The most questioned and speculated class are the Dinosaurs that once thrived on our timeline. It is known they existed over a hundred million years ago. The largest Dinosaur to date was found in Argentina and is cleverly known as the Argentinosaurus of the Titanosaurus.

The same as we see today, there was a life cycle of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. They were land and sea dwellers who abruptly disappeared from our planet. The only traces and hints we have are derived from the fossils and remains found deep in the ground. Generations of research are documented to give us a glimpse of what life was like in the Triassic, Jurrasic and Cretaceous periods.

Interesting Argentinosaurus Facts

Sizing Up an Argentinosaurus has not been easy. Putting together the pieces, paleontologists have come to a few differing conclusions. The main consensus is the Dinosaur fossil found belongs to the largest type of dino we have stumbled upon. With room for error, the measurements put the Argentinosaurus at 75 to 100 feet long and the same in tons for its weight. South America was filled with these larger than life Dinosaurs. The Giganotosaurus also lived in the region and is believed to have been the main predator of the Argentinosaurus.

Traveling in packs made the group a force of nature even at top speeds of five to eight miles per hour. Their long necks and stomping power would put you in mind of the Diplodocus except the Argentinosaurus lived over fifty million years after them. Much like most long necked breeds, it is unclear how they postured themselves without straining their physical health. The sheer weight and length of their neck would be almost impossible for lengthy periods of time.

Inconclusive in Argentina

Dozens of fossils in Argentina and around the world have left a few gaps in the story. Without a full and complete set of bone structures to build, it is difficult to determine if they stood straight up or hung their heads on an even keel. Plant eating dinosaurs are of course remembered as being more friendly than their counterparts such as the Giga or Tyrannosaurus Rex. Their stature would have either reached high in the trees or remained lower to enjoy their green diets.

Another ambiguous area of research is the pattern of growth in the Argentinosaurus. Incredibly large and heavy, it is unconceivable they grew quickly. Science and research points us in the direction with an estimate of four decades until they hit their maximum growth span.

Life is full of learning lessons and data to be processed. We continue exploring new worlds from long ago that paved the path for today. The Argentinosaurus has been an imperative discovery with a tale of its very own.
